“Enforcers Done” (Paint What You Got Challenge):

Well here I am back before the end of the month as promised and with my three hundred and fiftieth post too! (yay me!🎂). So I give you my last entry into Dave Stones “Paint what you got challenge”. Though three figures isn’t exactly a big finale’ it does form a bit of a milestone in my pile of “Dead Zone” figures, as these three now mean I have completed all the Enforcer figures I have, though to be honest that’s only ten and two “DOG”s* (and I won’t be rushing out to swell there ranks anytime soon, as I have more than enough to play the games that we want to at present). So for the last time in the foreseeable future I stuck the figures together, based them with modelling sans and cat litter rocks and took them out to the back garden for a spray coat of matt black…

I started the painting proper in the usual manner by dry-brushing the weapons with chainmail, along with the knees on their armour. Then I set to work on their armour along with the top cover on the trooper’s weapons and the odd part of the “DOG”’s gun with some dark green. I added the camo over this next taking stone green and added the first layer of “splodges” in a combination of zigzag lines and a stylized tree branch effect, I then repeated this process with some coffee, then I went back round these “splodges” and tidied up a bit here and there where I’d been a bit heavy handed with the green and coffee. I then went round and sharpened up the edges with some black (as usual I’d gone over the lines a little), and once this was dry I highlighted the rest of the bodysuits in dark grey. That just left the finishing touches to add, first off I painted the small triangular area on their chest plates in pink burgundy and highlighted these with some bright red. I’d added a couple of packs and a holster to the trooper figures so I added these in dark grey highlighted with some mid-grey, and lastly I added the eye’s and the odd dot/light here and there with some orange, with highlights of more orange mixed with a little white.

As usual they were then given a brush coat of “Quickshade” (strong tone) and once dry had their bases painted in my usual Dead Zone style of chocolate brown with subsequent dry-brushes of khaki and coffee. A final spray coat of matt varnish was all that was needed finish them off. So with two days to spare I’ve completed my last entry for this years “Paint what you got challenge”, I have to thank Dave for coming up with this idea, it really does help to get a few of those long standing projects “over the line”.

I’ll leave you with this thought on the anniversary of the War on Ukraine, it’s great that so many countries have supported Ukraine’s brave efforts and that so many of the world’s leaders have been to Kyiv in the last twelve months. But even better is the fact that one World leader hasn’t reached there….Vladimir Putin!

Cheers Roger.

*DOG = Deployable Offensive Gun (hey I didn’t come up with it, blame Mantic!)

Excellent work on the Enforcers Roger, and must feel good to have them finished. So other than the Forge Fathers, what have you got left to paint for deadzone ?

    • Thanks Dave, well apart from a few sprues of “Forge Fathers” I also have a reasonable pile of the Plague figures too including some of the “leapers” Dave (Guru Pig) has been painting recently.

They will all get done eventually, though sometimes it takes me years (like those 20mm Japanese 😁).

      Cheers Roger.

  2. These look great, Roger! 🙂 I really like the camouflage (and the DOG of course)! Brilliant!

  3. Alex says:

    Lovely job mate, great camo!!

  4. Matt says:

Excellent work on the camo, Roger, you’ve once again managed to get a modern digital look on the models! I have to admit, I do like those sculpts, they’re nicely futuristic without going over the top.

    • Thanks Matt, the camo is pretty simplistic to be honest, but seems to work well enough. The figures are pretty nice, it’s good to see that though Dead Zone is marketed as an alternative to Kill Team, Mantic didn’t just clone GW’s style of figures. They are are not to everyone’s taste but I kinda like them especially the Forge Fathers.

      Cheers Roger.

  5. Splendid stuff, Roger. I must confess to not being a fan of the Enforcer’s look myself, but I do like your camo (and Forge Fathers). That DOG looks extremely formidable, imho, and would certainly be drawing my attention if I was across from it on the battlefield.

    • Thanks Simon, yep I know you’re not really a fan of the enforcers, to be honest I wasn’t that big a fan myself to start with though they have grown on me a bit over time (I think part of it was the paintjobs on the box art miniatures.

The DOG’s are a bit silly as an idea, but the models are rather imposing as you say.

      Cheers Roger.

  6. They look absolutely brilliant Roger, that camo REALLY works – very realistic, really sells it! And too bloody right, Slavia Ukraini 🇺🇦

  7. Azazel says:

These guys look great, Roger. That camo really come up fantastically well on them. I got rid of most of my restic Mantic stuff (passed onto GURU) but I kept most fo the HIPS stuff – hopefully one day I can do some enforcers and have them come out as cool as yours have here!

  8. Excellent work and congrats on 350 posts of greatness!

  9. Guru PIG says:

Really like the cam on these Roger.
