“What If?….Wednesday (22nd July)”

OK while I didn’t post an update on my “Pond” for Dave’s “Summer of Scenery Challenge” last weekend I have been making steady (if slow) progress on it and hopefully be able to show the finished piece this weekend. In the meantime lets have another round of “What if…Wednesday”, and following on from last weeks “What is” question I thought we’d do another so without further ado so….What are your top five film or television monsters!

I love a good monster, if a movie doesn’t have a Monster, Robot, Superhero or Spaceship in it then what was the point in making it!

Now there are no size restrictions here, so everything from “Krites” and “Gremlins” all the way up to “King Kong” and “The Blob” are eligible, but there are however a couple of rules (sorry), so though the likes of “Jason Voorhees” and “Michael Myers” will be allowed “Hannibal Lecter” and “Alex Forrest” (Fatal Attraction) wont, as a “Monster” needs to have some supernatural type quality. Things like “Bruce” the Shark from “Jaws” and the Crocodile from “Lake Placid” will also count, let’s be honest it’s a bit of a grey area so I’ll leave it to your own discretion as to what counts and what doesn’t, let’s just stay within the “spirit of the rules” as they say.

So as usual I give you my top five, and then it’s over to you lot….

  1. Godzilla (In all his forms baring the awful 1998 Dean Devlin version)
  2. Aliens (Another classic monster, though being gradually destroyed by its last four movies!)
  3. Daleks (Another one diminished in recent years, are you noticing a trend here!)
  4. Francesca (Mad Monster Party’s super-hot artificial human assistant, and yes she’s a puppet from a kid’s film! I have issues OK)
  5. The Gill man (From “Creature from the black lagoon”, great effects for it day)

There are so many others I could pick along with some truly awful ones like the “Robot Monster” or malevolent tree stump in “From hell it came!”. But now it’s over to you, try not to scare yourselves too much…hahahahahhahah!

Stay safe and cheers Roger.

Monsters one of my favourite subjects, here’s my list.
1 Alien Queen from Aliens liked the fact it looked less human.
    2 Sil from Species
3 blue faced monkey from Evolution
4 Dragon (Wyvern) from Reign of Fire
    5Turok from Avatar
6 any monster that doesn’t look human ! LOL

    • Thanks Dave, I have a feeling that the Xenomorph “Aliens” in all there different forms are going to be the “Mad Max Interceptor” of the Monster world 😁.

But I wonder will anyone pick the Happiness Dragon from “Never ending story” ?

Damn now I want to add the “Skeksis” from the Dark Crystal now! (Should have made it six choices 😖)

      Cheers Roger.

  2. Mut says:

Good question, and it’s another one with so many possible answers. I’d have to go for:

The Alien. Just sheer terror on two feet.
The Thing, in all its forms.
The Pale Man from “Pan’s Labyrinth”. Ugh.
Brundlefly from “The Fly” (1986). Dear God.
Eugene Tooms from the X-Files. Creepy as hell.

  3. Great topic. I’ll go with ones that actually scared or creeped me out:

    1. The Zuni Fetish Doll (known as “He Who Kills”) from the ABC Movie of the Week “Trilogy of Terror”. It was in the story “Amelia”, written by Richard Matheson. I saw this at the age of 12 in 1975 while being my Mom and Dad were out and we were being watched by my older cousin. This was waaay before Chucky and I remember being truly freaked out. Here, take a look https://youtu.be/nra7OmV1IzE
    2. The “bad gargantuan” from “The War of the Gargantuas”. I remember seeing that at the age of 7 or 8, and the image of it eating people and spitting out the clothes really scared me! https://youtu.be/HKAuY6vmA04
    3. Belated Lugosi’s original Dracula, also seen by me at a young age.
    4. Godzilla
    5. Chucky

    • Thanks Mark, really good choices! I didn’t remember “Zuni” till I started watching the clip, but yes that is creepy as hell! Also I’m a massive Toho fan (I watched Atragon this morning funnily enough) but I’ve never seen War of the Gargantua’s so will have to look out for that one!

I’ve also been revisiting the “Chucky” movies while I been off this summer too.

      Cheers Roger.

  4. Definitely Aliens.
    Predator
    King Kong
    Freddy Krueger
Rancour (Return of the Jedi, tge monster Luke fights at Jabbas palace).
